Where Bronx County Warrant Information Appears
Bronx County does not have a sheriff-published active arrest-warrant list. Criminal warrants are issued by judges in Bronx Criminal Court or Bronx Supreme Criminal Term and are recorded inside the criminal case file. The closest public tool is the statewide WebCriminal search, which can show case status, calendar entries, and future appearances that hint at warrant activity. WebCriminal is not a warrant database, and it will not return a clean "warrant: yes/no" answer.
Civil and tax warrants are different. The Bronx County Clerk Dockets Department records judgments, mechanic's liens, New York State tax warrants, and federal tax liens, and these are searchable in the office or online through the Bronx County Clerk search portal. A tax warrant is a civil debt-enforcement filing, not an order to arrest. Mixing the two is the most common mistake Bronx residents make when they hear the word "warrant."
Types of Bronx County Warrants
Warrants in the Bronx fall into several categories with very different rules and visibility. Some are criminal court orders, some are civil filings, and some are sealed by law. Knowing the type tells you which office to call.
- Arrest warrant - a judicial order authorizing arrest on a criminal matter.
- Bench warrant - issued when a defendant fails to appear, violates a court directive, or is needed before the court.
- Search warrant - authorizes search and seizure; often sealed until executed and may stay restricted.
- Family Court warrant - may issue in support, custody, or family-offense matters, with confidentiality limits under Family Court Act § 166.
- Tax warrant - a civil or tax-debt filing historically docketed with the County Clerk.
- Judgment / lien - a civil enforcement record indexed by name, not an arrest order.
How to Search Bronx County Warrants
Because there is no single Bronx warrant portal, the search is a sequence of official checks. Skip the third-party "warrant lookup" sites; they are not Bronx records and can be wrong. Start with WebCriminal and move to direct clerk contact.
- Search WebCriminal by defendant name, limited to Bronx Criminal Court, Bronx Criminal Court - Summons, or Bronx Supreme Criminal Court.
- Review case status and any future appearance. A missed-appearance status can signal bench-warrant activity, though the form does not label it as a warrant.
- Call the relevant clerk: the Criminal Term Central Clerk's Office at 718-618-3100 for Supreme criminal matters, or Bronx Criminal Court at 718-618-2400 for lower criminal matters.
- For tax warrants and judgments, search the Bronx County Clerk portal Lien Search tab or call the Dockets Department at 718-618-3377.
- For a post-July 1, 2025 state tax warrant, check the New York Department of State, which now receives new state tax warrant filings.
A criminal defense attorney can confirm a Bronx bench warrant faster and more safely than a self-search, because the attorney can contact the part clerk directly.
Bronx Warrant Case Search Fields
WebCriminal is the official public search that comes closest to a Bronx warrant check. The defendant search needs name characters; the calendar search needs court and date detail. The table lists the fields and their format rules.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes / Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Defendant First / Last Name | Text | Conditional | At least first two characters of each name |
| Case # | Text | Conditional | Alternative to name search |
| Summons # | Text | Conditional | Alternative to case number |
| Court | Dropdown | Optional | Bronx Criminal Court; Bronx Criminal Court - Summons; Bronx Supreme Criminal Court |
| Court Calendar | Date / court / part | Required for calendar | Reveals future appearances; not a warrant list |
| Output | Radio | Required | Display on page or As a PDF document |
For the County Clerk Lien Search, the portal asks for a debtor or party last name because judgments and liens are indexed by name.
What Bronx Warrant-Related Records Show
Bronx does not publish a clean warrant record with a warrant number and bond field the way some county jails do. What the public can see is case-level and docket-level data that surrounds a warrant. The table shows the realistic fields a searcher will encounter.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Case / Index Number | The criminal case or summons identifier tied to the matter |
| Court and Part | Bronx Criminal Court, Summons part, or Bronx Supreme Criminal Court |
| Case Status | Open, disposed, or scheduled; a missed appearance can imply a bench warrant |
| Next Appearance | Upcoming court date and purpose, if any |
| Judgment / Lien Entry | For tax warrants: debtor name, entry date, and filing type from the Dockets Department |
No official Bronx source publishes a sample active arrest-warrant listing, so treat any site that claims to show one with caution.
What to Do If You Have a Bronx Warrant
A person who believes a Bronx bench warrant or arrest warrant is open should not rely on third-party sites and should not simply walk into a precinct without advice. The safer path is to confirm the case through WebCriminal, then get legal help before any voluntary appearance.
- Do not rely on commercial warrant sites for Bronx data.
- Search WebCriminal for case and calendar context.
- Call the Criminal Term Central Clerk's Office at 265 East 161st Street for Supreme matters, or Bronx Criminal Court for lower matters.
- Contact a defense attorney or the Bronx Defenders if eligible.
- If advised to appear, confirm the courtroom, part, date, and whether bail or bond will be addressed.
- Bring photo ID and any documents showing compliance, payment, or prior appearance.
Important: Talk to a defense attorney before surrendering on a Bronx warrant; counsel can arrange the appearance and address bail at the same time.
Bronx Tax Warrants Before and After July 1, 2025
Tax warrants changed in 2025. The Bronx County Clerk Dockets page says that effective July 1, 2025, New York State Tax Department tax warrants and related documents are filed electronically with the New York Department of State instead of with County Clerks. The Bronx County Clerk still provides certified copies and related documents for state tax warrants filed on or before June 30, 2025.
For a Bronx searcher this means a two-stop check. Older state tax warrants are a Bronx County Clerk Dockets request. Newer state tax warrants are a Department of State record. Federal tax liens and local judgments continue to docket with the Bronx County Clerk and remain searchable through the Clerk portal. The Bronx County Clerk page covers the Dockets Department process and fees.
Criminal Court vs Supreme Criminal Term
The right clerk depends on the charge level. Lower criminal matters, summonses, and misdemeanor arraignments run through NYC Criminal Court at 215 East 161st Street, reached at 718-618-2400. Felony matters and serious criminal cases run through Bronx Supreme Criminal Term at 265 East 161st Street, reached at 718-618-3100. A bench warrant tied to a missed appearance follows the case, so the part that issued it is the part that can address it.
Calling the wrong building wastes time and can send a person to the wrong courthouse. The Criminal Term Central Clerk's Office on the second floor handles Supreme criminal case questions and certificates of disposition. For a misdemeanor or summons matter, the Bronx Criminal Court clerk is the correct contact. When in doubt, run the WebCriminal search first; the court field in the result tells you which building holds the case. The Bronx Supreme Court page explains the Civil and Criminal Term split in more detail.
Clearing Related Judgments and Liens
A civil judgment or lien is not an arrest warrant, but Bronx residents often lump them together because both can show up in a name-based search. The Bronx County Clerk Dockets Department records judgments, mechanic's liens, notices of pendency, and building-loan filings. The Dockets page states that judgments and liens are permanent public records indexed by name, so a searcher must know the debtor's last name to find them.
A judgment can be enforceable against real property for ten years and personal property for twenty years. Clearing one usually means satisfying the debt and filing a satisfaction of judgment with the Clerk. For block-and-lot property liens, the Dockets Department asks for the property's block and lot numbers and can be reached at 718-618-3377. Deeds and mortgages are not Clerk records; they are filed with the NYC Office of City Register and searched through ACRIS, a distinction the Bronx public records page explains.
Sealed and Restricted Bronx Warrants
Many Bronx warrants are not public. Search warrants are frequently sealed until executed and can stay restricted during an investigation. Juvenile and Family Court warrants carry confidentiality protections under Family Court Act § 166 and related statutes. Grand jury matters are secret by law unless a court orders disclosure. A warrant connected to a case that was later sealed under CPL 160.50 will not surface in a public search.
Federal warrants from the Bronx are handled by federal courts and agencies, not by the New York Unified Court System. There is no public federal active-warrant browser; federal case context comes through PACER once charges are filed and unsealed.
